What are the mandatory fields in a GST tax invoice?
As per Rule 46 of CGST Rules, a tax invoice must include: supplier's name, address, GSTIN; invoice number and date; buyer's name, address, GSTIN; HSN/SAC codes; description, quantity, value of goods/services; taxable value; tax rate and amount (CGST, SGST/IGST); place of supply; and signature.
When is a tax invoice required under GST?
A registered person must issue a tax invoice for every supply of goods or services. For goods, the invoice must be issued before or at the time of removal/delivery. For services, within 30 days of supply. Businesses with turnover above Rs. 20 lakhs must register for GST.
What is the difference between CGST+SGST and IGST?
For intra-state supplies (within the same state), CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are charged equally (e.g., 9% each for 18% GST). For inter-state supplies, IGST (Integrated GST) is charged at the full rate (e.g., 18%).
Can I claim Input Tax Credit on this invoice?
Yes, the buyer can claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) on the GST paid, subject to conditions under Section 16 of CGST Act. The invoice must be reflected in the supplier's GSTR-1 and the buyer must have received the goods/services.
